Janay Maisano is a composer that has experience writing for video games, film, and concert music.
Janay is a composer with a strong passion for video game music and ludomusicology. She is a graduate of the University of Redlands, having earned a Bachelors of Music in Composition in 2021, as well as from the University of Las Vegas, where she completed her Masters of Music in Jazz and Commercial Music Composition in 2026. She has received instruction from composers such as Anthony Suter, Dave Loeb, Carlos Mata-Alvarez, Mark Dancigers, and Andre Myers. She has played classical piano since the age of five, and is a passionate vocalist as well.
She has participated in multiple game jams and film collaborations throughout her studies and career, and has also written music for groups such as Transient Canvas, the Holland Concert Jazz Orchestra, and HUB. She is also the founder and first president of the UNLV Ludomusicology Society, an organization dedicated to promoting discussion and research of video game music between students and bringing more awareness and appreciation to the subject. She has traveled internationally to study music and to have pieces performed while also being a member of groups such as the Millennium Composer Initiative (MCI), a group of composers that’s meant for exposing and providing opportunity for composers of all kinds of backgrounds and styles, as well as Phi Kappa Lambda.
When not writing music, she enjoys playing video games, writing original stories, and appreciating animation. Some of her favorite games include Baldur’s Gate 3, Undertale, and Kingdom Come Deliverance II, and her favorite shows (and soundtracks) include Avatar the Last Airbender, Owl House, and the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
